Life in Alaska
On March 21, 2007 U.S. Embassy Yerevan Officer Masha Herbst gave a public lecture “Life in Alaska” at the American Corner Gyumri in the context of the "Americans at the American Corner" program. She drew strongly on her work experience as a journalist in Alaska. In her lecture she spoke of the many things that are unique to the state. Masha recounted Alaska’s fascinating history, and described its inhospitable climate, many native cultures and languages. She made particular mention of the Northern Lights, which she considered the most wonderful natural phenomenon that she had ever seen. Although the U.S. government bought Alaska from Russia 140 years ago, Russian heritage is still recognized there, but mostly for tourists. Alaska is a stunningly gorgeous state and tourists come from all over the world. More than 15 participants took part in the lecture. As a pert of the lecture, program participants watched "Glacier Bay National Park" video.
