Evidence of Crime Obtained Unlawfully

3:00pm 10.06.2009

On June 10, 2009, the Gyumri American Corner held a public lecture on “Evidence of Crime Obtained Unlawfully. “ The lecture was conducted by Steve Kessler, Regional Law Adviser in U.S. Embassy Yerevan.

Mr. Kessler started the lecture with the question “If you were a Judge, what you would do in case the witness changes his indication?” Then he spoke about the reasons the witness changes his indication, what impact it may have, and how a judge is expected to act in these cases.

Then Mr. Kessler spoke about a jury verdict system, which does not exist in Armenian. He explained who can be on a jury and how jury members are selected. Mr. Kessler also mentioned that in rare cases, the jury system doesn’t work properly. He also discussed how people are arrested.

The participants were very active; they asked a lot of questions to the presenter concerning the arrest process, the jury system, etc.
