International Education Week Celebrated in Gyumri
3:00pm 19.11.2009
On November 19, 2009, the American Corner in Gyumri with representatives from the U.S. Peace Corps, guests from Poland and Italy, and local universities organized an event dedicated to International Education Week. The event was divided into three discussion sessions: the differences between international education systems, American high schools, presented by a FLEX alumnus, and the Armenian education system.
Guests from Poland and Italy, as well as Peace Corps Volunteers, presented the structure of the educational systems in their countries, and a Gyumri American Corner patron presented the Armenian education system. The discussion provided the opportunity to compare different systems and discuss best practices. Two FLEX alumni shared their one year high school experience in U.S. They told the participants what they liked and disliked about the program, and they also brought some souvenirs from their high school exchanges. In the last session, the participants were divided into three groups and were asked to discuss the pros and cons of Armenian schools and universities. More than twenty patrons participated in the presentations.
