On December 9, 2009, the Gyumri American Corner and the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan organized a public lecture entitled "Capital of the World: New York City." U.S. Embassy Regional Security Officer Gordon Goetz led the lecture.
Mr. Goetz explained that New York City is composed of five boroughs including Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. He discussed each borough, mentioning how many people live in each, and highlighted famous places in the city. Specifically, he spoke about the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Broadway, and the Empire State Building, among other well known monuments and places.
After the presentation, participants asked a wide range of questions. The American Corner then screened a film about New York City. More than 20 students and teachers learned many interesting facts about the great city known as the "Capital of the World."
