Corruption and Society
3:00pm 14.04.2010
On April 14, at the Gyumri American Corner, USAID/Armenia democracy advisor Mark Levinson gave a public lecture entitled “Corruption and Society.” Levinson asked the participants to define corruption and how it affects their everyday life? As most of the participants were local university students, they gave examples from their student life and the field of education.
Mr. Levinson presented some high ranking politicians from U.S. who had taken bribes. Then he explained what kind of environment is conducive to corruption such as perceived need of entitlement, opportunity, and lack of consequences. He also addressed the question, why is fighting corruption important? Levinson also brought some statistics about the corruption in the world using information from Transparency International web page http://www.transparency.org
