Round Table Discussion on Media Law Issues

On May 27, 2011 Gyumri American Corner in partnership with the U.S. Embassy organized a roundtable discussions with Media Law expert Jane Kirtley and students.
Ms. Kirtley firstly presented herself and spoke about her recently published book. Then she began a talk with the students about various topics concerned with Media Law. Students were interested in the freedom of speech in Armenia and in the USA. There was also discussion about the Insult Law, and the right of privacy.
About 15 people participated in the roundtable discussion. They were mainly students from different universities including, Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute, Gyumri Branch of State Economic University, as well as different NGO representatives. The discussion was very interesting and useful as it helped the students learn about the rights of journalists and the different laws connected with them. It also helped them to develop their English speaking skills.
