General Information

Gyumri Branch of ACSTI was founded in1972. It is the single one in Shirak region by its nature. Since the day of founding the funds of the Gyumri Branch has been both updated and developed the funds printed materials: books, journals: electronic resources such as CD, DVD etc. As of January 2006 the Library’s funds numbered more them 72.500 items.


In 1998 the library participated in IEFL direct project and became the main subscriber of the EBSCO database in Shirak region. CD/DVDs of the eight EBSCO database were gained during the project. The databases are the following: ` Academic Search, Business Source Premier, ERIC, Master file Premier, Newspaper Source, Health Source Consumer Edition, Medline. The database get an opportunity to use more then 16000 journals concerning science, techniques, medicine and sociological sciences, from 10000 are available as full text.

Since 1999 is a participant of “The East and Central Europe Journal Donation Project", in the results og which the department gets different kinds of 30 journals: economy, sociology, business management.

In 1998 the department applied to the grant project organized by SOROS foundation, as a result of which it won the grand project for realized the project “Automatization of library processes” .With the library special program “IRBIS” there was formed an electronic database.

In 1999 the department again applied to grant project organized by SOROS and got the grant for realizing “Library funds updating”.

In 2001 the department took part in the grant project organized by the Eurasia foundation,"Libraries as communicating centers"and won it.

In 2005 with the support of the USA embassy the second "American Corner"was opened in Armenia, which is itself in an American style library."American Corner" helps to develop the level of communication between Armenia and United States .During its activities all the projects that has been held, the library has been provided with literature and with modern technologies, which gives an opportunity to all its visitors to satisfy their informative needs.
